Dimitar Demirov
Conductor · 1966–1971
Dimitar Demirov joined the choir in 1966 as assistant conductor, taking on part of the work with the singers so that Marin Chonev could concentrate on interpretation. In 1970 he shared with Chonev the credit for the successful tour of Poland.
In the summer of 1971, while Chonev was ill for a long time, it was Demirov who prepared Cherubini's Requiem with the choir for its first performance in Bulgaria – at Varna Summer on 15 July 1971, under the Italian conductor Piero Adorno. The concert did not go as well as the choir had hoped, and the author sees it as a timely warning against complacency. At the end of October 1971 Demirov was released from his duties with the choir.
